Before every shopping trip, we have the talk.
"Only one toy, okay?" I say.
"Okay, Mommy! Just one!" she nods, all serious and determined.
I believe her. I really do.
But the moment we step into the store, it’s like her memory resets.
"Mommy, I need this!" she exclaims, grabbing a doll.
"And this!" A puzzle joins the cart.
"Oh! And this one too!" A stuffed bunny? Of course.
I remind her, “Sweetheart, you promised. Just one.”
She blinks at me like she’s never heard such a rule before. “But, Mommy, I NEED them all.”
Fast forward to checkout, and guess what? Half the bill is hers. I sigh, she grins, and I tell myself, Next time will be different. (But deep down, I know it won’t.)
